Allison (Allie) VanderSchrag (she/her), LCSW
Welcome! I’m Allie (she/her), and I’m so glad you are here! I identify as a white, cisgender, queer woman and a trans ally. My practice aims to empower queer folks to find joy and meaning in their journeys to parenting and beyond. I am particularly interested in working with queer folks who are looking for support in queer parenting, family expanding, pregnancy, perinatal mental health support and postpartum support.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and have been practicing for over a decade. My background is in school social work, integrated primary health care and diabetes management. I have experience and training in incorporating anti-racism and trauma-informed care into my practice, and continue to seek consultation and training in this. As a social worker, I see you as an individual within a variety of environments. I love exploring with my clients how their identities are shaped and changed by the systems and environments in which we interact.
I believe in creating a safe, healing space for you (and your family, biological or chosen) to sit with and feel all the feels associated with your family expanding process and/or parenting. My approach is relational and rooted in self-compassion, as well as the belief that what we need is here. Family expansion (especially queer family expansion!), parenting and adulting is really beautiful, exhausting, joyful and draining all at the same time. Being a queer family right now is an incredible act of resistance and also so very hard. Finding, celebrating and being your true authentic self is an act of courage. I believe the world needs you as you are: beautiful, messy and powerful. Let’s walk on this journey together.
Here’s a bit more about me. My partner (ze/zem) and I tried to conceive for two years before my partner became pregnant. We hated all the binary coded nonsense that came with pregnancy, labor and delivery and postpartum. That experience changed my clinical interest and focus to this work. We love our little one (born spring 2025!) and love our beautiful family, complete with three fur-babies (cats). When I’m not working out my arms lifting my child up and down, you can find me walking outside, cooking, listening to a queer YA romance audiobook, or dabbling in fiber arts. If any of this resonates with you, please reach out to me for an intro call.
