Beyond Risk: Using Resilience and Psychological Self-Sufficiency to Support Health Goals Among Black Men and Black MSM

$100.00

This is a 3-hour CEU/CE training. This training is designed for mental health clinicians and other health professionals who provide HIV prevention, treatment, care coordination, behavioral health, or other health services to Black men, including Black gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men. The training would build upon research Dr. Tony Johnson conducted with Black MSM in Chicago. That research identified three central components of health-goal achievement: (1) Setting realistic and personally meaningful health goals, (2) Identifying internal and external strategies for reaching those goals, and (3) Developing tools for responding to barriers, setbacks, and structural challenges.

Participants will learn how to apply resilience, intersectionality, psychological empowerment, and psychological self-sufficiency (PSS) to culturally responsive assessment, treatment planning, motivational work, and interdisciplinary health care.
