Tony Johnson (He/Him), PhD, MPH, LCSW

Dr. Tony Johnson is a clinical therapist, social justice leader, and mental health advocate with more than 15 years of experience supporting individuals and communities navigating grief, trauma, adversity, and life transitions. His work is grounded in the belief that healing should be culturally responsive, collaborative, and deeply personal. He is passionate about creating therapeutic spaces where clients feel seen, heard, and empowered to move toward meaningful change.

With a PhD. in Social Work and a Master’s in Public Health specializing in community health interventions, Dr. Johnson integrates academic scholarship, public health practice, community engagement, and clinical expertise into his therapeutic approach. His areas of focus include:

• Grief and bereavement
• Trauma recovery
• Resilience and psychological self-sufficiency
• Identity development
• Anxiety and depression
• Life transitions
• Community and relational healing

Dr. Johnson draws from several evidence-based and expressive approaches, including:

• Psychodynamic therapy
• Narrative therapy
• Music-informed psychotherapy
• Songwriting and expressive interventions
• Strengths-based approaches
• Culturally responsive care

His therapeutic philosophy has been profoundly shaped by personal experiences with loss. The death of his mother during his doctoral studies deepened his understanding of family grief and bereavement, while the earlier loss of a cousin to complications from HIV strengthened his commitment to supporting individuals experiencing complex trauma and loss. These experiences continue to inform his work and reinforce his belief that healing requires compassion, authenticity, and connection.

Recognizing that healing does not always occur through conversation alone, Dr. Johnson also incorporates music, storytelling, and creative expression into psychotherapy. As both a therapist and musician, he believes that music can provide a powerful pathway for emotional expression, particularly for individuals who struggle to put their experiences into words. Through music- informed therapeutic practices, he helps clients process emotions, reclaim their voices, and transform painful experiences into stories of resilience, growth, and possibility.

Dr. Johnson welcomes clients seeking an affirming and creative therapeutic experience centered on:

• Healing
• Growth
• Empowerment
• Self-discovery
• Resilience

He currently offers individual psychotherapy through Little Seed Wellness, including sliding-scale services ranging from $75–$180.
