This course introduces students to the principles of trauma-informed care, including basic nervous system functioning and how to work ethically and effectively with individuals who have trauma histories. It builds awareness of trauma’s prevalence, symptoms, and treatment implications to support more accessible and effective mental health care. Students will gain foundational knowledge on how stress impacts functioning, how stress responses operate, and how to apply relevant theories and interventions in session. The course also includes open discussions, clinical reflection, and personal analysis to deepen understanding and improve treatment outcomes.
