Sylvia Johnston (They/She), LSW

I’m a queer, neurodivergent therapist and Southerner-turned-Chicagoan who offers a grounded, compassionate space for people navigating life transitions, grief, identity exploration, and healing. I work with teens, young adults, older adults, and LGBTQIA+ clients, with a particular focus on grief, discernment, religious trauma, anxiety, and depression.

My background in both social work and theology allows me to approach therapy with justice, curiosity, reflectiveness, and a deep respect for each person’s unique story especially when it comes to grief, spiritual or religious experiences. I honor how complicated it can be to hold grief, growth, and identity at once, and I strive to be a steady presence for clients as they explore what it means to care for themselves in a world that can be overwhelming and overstimulating.

Therapy with me is relational and affirming. It’s a space where you can come as you are — to be witnessed and supported in both your stuckness and your becoming. Especially in times like these, it’s hard to be a person. My work is shaped by a commitment to justice, mutual aid, and expanding what community care can look like.

In my free time, you can find me reading a good book, exploring Chicago, traveling with my partner, getting ice cream with my chosen family, or snuggling with my cat. I also love a good coffee shop, cooking a cozy meal, and attending a book club. Lately, I’ve found joy in reconnecting with the community and learning new ways to ground myself — because care, like healing, is something we build and rebuild together.

I look forward to connecting!
